After the parties, the travel, the noise, and the sparkle, this in-between week invites something different.

 

Less doing. More being. Less stimulation. More connection.

 

This Friday Faves is about gentle, non-toxic ways to decompress, reconnect with your people, and re-root as a family during Christmas break.

 

A little note for our community: this series will be changed over to 'Friday Field Notes' come the new year — a deliberate move away from over-commercialization, because quite frankly, we're running out of product recommendations.

 

And honestly, we'd rather share recipes, remedies, and insights straight from our programs anyways. 🔆

🕉️ Slow the Nervous System (Together)

Simple rituals that help everyone exhale. 😮‍💨

  • Daily Nature Walks — No agenda. No steps to hit. Just noticing trees, birds, cold air, and quiet.
  • Candlelit Evenings — Dim the lights after dinner. Let the nervous system downshift naturally. 🕯️
  • Warm Drinks + Shared Silence — Herbal tea, broth, or cacao while sitting together, no pressure to talk. 
  • Gentle Stretching or Floor Time — Ten minutes of slow movement, breathing, or simply lying on the rug together. 🧘‍♀️

⏳ Connect Without Screens

Presence is the gift that keeps givingWith raw honey & raw cream. Mix in blackberries for color and antioxidants.

  • Read Aloud — Even to older kids. Stories regulate and connect in ways screens never can. 📖
  • Family Puzzles or Card Games — Cooperative games encourage laughter without competition or overstimulation.

  • Cook Something Healthy — Soup, bread, muffins. Working with food grounds us. 🪻
  • Memory Sharing — Ask gentle questions: What was your favorite moment this year? What are you excited about next? ✨

🧺 Gentle Home Reset

A calm home supports a calm body.

  • Intentional Gift Zones — Use baskets, shelves, or simple natural organizers to keep items tidy. Think woven baskets, wooden crates, and glass jars 🌾
  • One In, One Out — For each new gift, lovingly release an older item. 💟
  • Cycle, Not Clutter — Store some gifts or toys to reintroduce later; novelty doesn’t need to be all at once.
  • Purposeful Donations — Donate, gift to another family, or share via Buy Nothing / neighborhood exchanges. ♻️

🟣 Pause + Unwind

Take a moment to slow down, reset, and enjoy a little calm for yourself.

  • Read and Relax — Escape into a story. Let your mind wander. Under this muslin blanket 🥰
  • Soothing Bath — Try a bath with DIY bath salts: ½ cup Epsom salt + ½ cup baking soda + 5 drops lavender or chamomile essential oil. Or a sugar scrub: ½ cup sugar + ¼ cup coconut oil + a few drops of citrus essential oil. 🛁
  • Mini Art Break — Doodle, color, or sketch. Focus on the process, not perfection. Non-toxic, water-based markers here 🎨
  • Mindful Music — Play a favorite song. Listen to every note and beat. 🎶

🌙 A Gentle Reminder

This week doesn’t need to be productive. It doesn’t need plans or pictures or perfection. Sometimes the most healing thing we can offer our families is less noise, less clutter, and more presence.
