Dearest Visionary... 💫

Welcome back to our weekly edition of Friday Field Notes.

Scroll to the bottom for our Fall Equinox Flash Sale—you won’t want to miss this one. 😉

This week inside our Doctor of Spiritual Medicine program, we're turning our attention toward a moment of transition in the natural world: the Fall Equinox. 🍂

Twice each year, the Earth reaches an equinox—a point in its journey around the sun when day and night are nearly equal in length.

It is a beautiful reminder that nature is always moving through seasons of expansion and retreat.

Summer gives way to autumn. Light begins to soften. The landscape begins to change.

And perhaps there is something for us to learn in that transition, too.

Rather than resisting the changing season, the Fall Equinox invites us to pause, reflect, and consider what we are ready to carry forward—and what we may be ready to release.

Read on as we explore three ways to welcome the wisdom of the Fall Equinox. 👇

⚖️ Embrace the Balance

The equinox offers a beautiful picture of balance—light and darkness, activity and stillness, outward growth and inward reflection.

Our modern lives don't always leave much room for that balance.

The changing season can be an invitation to reconsider that rhythm.

Consider:

  • Where have you been giving too much?
  • Where have you been holding back?
  • Where could more space, stillness, or nourishment bring greater balance?

Sometimes the first step toward restoration is simply noticing where we have become out of balance.

🍂 Honor the Season of Release

Walk through the woods in autumn and you'll notice something remarkable: the trees don't cling to what is leaving.

Leaves change color, loosen their hold, and eventually return to the earth.

There is wisdom in that process.

The Fall Equinox can be a natural time for reflection—an opportunity to consider what may no longer serve the season you're entering.

You might reflect on:

  • Habits that no longer support you
  • Commitments that have become burdensome
  • Expectations you've placed upon yourself
  • Thought patterns that keep you from moving forward

Letting go doesn't always mean abandoning something. Sometimes it means creating space for something new to take root.

🕯️ Turn Toward the Inner Season

As the days grow shorter, nature begins its gradual movement inward.

The garden quiets. The harvest is gathered. The landscape prepares for rest.

The Fall Equinox gives us an opportunity to reconnect with that rhythm and create moments of quiet reflection before the busyness of the holiday season arrives.

You might welcome these simple practices:

  • Taking a quiet walk outdoors
  • Journaling or reflecting
  • Lighting a candle and creating a moment of stillness
  • Gathering around a seasonal meal
  • Sitting quietly and observing the changes around you

✨ Within our Doctor of Spiritual Medicine program, students explore the relationship between the spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical dimensions of the human experience—and the many ways traditional wisdom and intentional practices can inform a holistic approach to wellness.

Perhaps this Fall Equinox, we can simply ask:

What season am I in—and what is it asking of me?
