Dear Visionary... 💫

Welcome to our Sunday Student Spotlight series, where every other week we share the story and accomplishments of a Rockwell student or graduate.

Our community is filled with extraordinary healers doing inspiring work in the world, and we're thrilled to share their stories with you.

Meet Dr. Angela Smith

Jacksonville, FL | Class of 2026 | DFM

"Nature Was Always the Medicine" — Dr. Smith

Angela Smith wasn't looking for a new career. She was looking for answers.

After years of navigating chronic stress, nervous system dysregulation, and a wellness landscape that felt more overwhelming than healing, she began piecing together a different understanding of health — one that looked at the whole person rather than the presenting symptom.

The further she went, the more she realized that what she'd been searching for had existed long before modern medicine tried to complicate it.

"The body was designed to heal when properly supported," she says. "Through nutrition, lifestyle, environment, emotional wellbeing, and connection to nature."

A Practice Built From Personal Experience

That conviction didn't stay theoretical. Dr. Smith completed her Doctor of Functional Medicine (DFM) through Rockwell School of Holistic Medicine in 2026, adding to credentials she already held as a Holistic Health Practitioner and Animal Naturopath.

But the education, she says, did something beyond credentialing — it reframed everything.

"It shifted my perspective from looking at symptoms separately to understanding the body as one interconnected system."

The most unexpected part of that shift wasn't nutritional or biochemical. It was the nervous system.

She came in focused on food and lifestyle. What she left with was a much deeper understanding of how chronic stress quietly undermines everything else — and how often people are living inside it without realizing it. 🌿

Where the Cats Come In

Dr. Smith is the founder of ApotheCattery, LLC, a holistic wellness and therapeutic companion brand in Jacksonville, Florida — and yes, the cats are central to it.

ApotheCattery combines functional wellness education, nervous system support, and nutrition and lifestyle guidance with ethically raised Maine Coons and Ragdolls nurtured in a calm, intentional environment.

For Dr. Smith, animals are a natural part of the healing environment. As both a wellness practitioner and Animal Naturopath, she's seen what happens when people navigating anxiety, grief, illness, or loneliness spend time with the right animal.

"Watching people experience comfort, peace, and companionship through animals — especially during difficult seasons of life — has reinforced my belief that healing goes far beyond physical symptoms." 🐾

What She's Building

Through ApotheCattery, Dr. Smith currently offers virtual wellness support and educational guidance covering gut health, food sensitivities, stress reduction, environmental wellness, and nervous system regulation.

Her longer vision is even larger: educational programs, holistic products, community resources, and eventually a physical space designed around peace, safety, and healing.

The throughline in all of it is the same. People come in feeling dismissed, exhausted, or disconnected from their own bodies. Her job, as she sees it, is to make them feel heard first.

"Sometimes people simply need support, understanding, nervous system safety, and connection." 🤍

Advice She'd Give Her Earlier Self

For anyone just starting out in holistic health, Dr. Smith keeps it simple: don't mistake complexity for depth.

"True transformation often comes from small, sustainable changes practiced consistently over time."

The fundamentals — nourishment, rest, reducing toxic burden, nervous system support, and reconnecting with nature — aren't a starting point you graduate from. They're the work.

And the human side matters just as much as the clinical.

"People are not just looking for information. They're looking for someone who truly listens, understands, and makes them feel supported."
