"Holistic Healing Empowered by Science." – Dr. Candelario
Twelve years inside conventional medicine — laboratories, emergency rooms, research settings, administrative operations — gave Dr. Ilka Tamar Candelario something most holistic practitioners never have: an insider's view of exactly where the system falls short.
Now based in Houston, TX, she's built a practice that draws on everything she learned there, and everything she discovered when she left it behind. 🩵 |

| Twelve Years at the Table
Dr. Candelario didn't come to holistic medicine from the outside looking in.
She trained in biomedical sciences, completed a pre-med internship, and spent over a decade working across clinical and administrative roles in conventional healthcare.
She understood how the system was built, how it operated, and what it prioritized—and over time, that understanding became the source of her frustration.
“The system focuses on managing symptoms rather than addressing root causes,” she explains.
What she was watching play out in exam rooms and labs didn't align with what she believed healing could look like. Still, leaving took time.
It wasn't until she stepped away from medicine entirely—returning to a modeling career she'd maintained for over two decades—that she found the space to pursue what she'd been searching for.
About eight years ago, she began transitioning back to study, this time on her own terms.
When she researched holistic education programs, Rockwell School of Holistic Medicine stood out immediately.
The legacy Tri-Doctorate program—through which she earned credentials in Holistic Medicine, Natural Medicine, and Traditional Naturopathy, along with certification in Clinical Homeopathy—offered the kind of comprehensive, integrative education she'd been looking for. |

| Unlearning to Relearn
Dr. Candelario graduated from Rockwell in 2022, adding her Rockwell credentials to an already extensive portfolio that includes a Post-Doctorate in Functional Medicine, certification as a Clinical Holistic Nutritionist, Clinical Herbalist, Biomagnetism Practitioner, Bioenergetics and Bioresonance Practitioner, and Peptide Integration Specialist, among others.
What surprised her most during her Rockwell training wasn’t a single dramatic moment—it was a quiet but significant shift in framework.
“I had to unlearn to relearn from a holistic and natural lens,” she says.
The program reinforced a perspective she’d long held but never had a formal structure to support: that people deserve to understand their own bodies, and that education is itself a form of medicine.
One unexpected discovery stood out.
“I was fascinated by learning about cell salts and how mineral balance can support the body’s natural processes,” she recalls.
For someone trained in biomedical sciences, it was a reminder that foundational, simple approaches often carry more power than complex interventions. |

| Wellness Synergy
Through her Houston-based practice, Wellness Synergy, Dr. Candelario works with clients navigating a wide range of health challenges—bringing together holistic nutrition, functional medicine perspectives, bioenergetic assessments, and biohacking strategies to identify patterns and support the body at a cellular level.
Her approach is anchored in the same principle that drove her out of conventional medicine: root-cause thinking.
She focuses on cellular support, detoxification, nervous system balance, and lifestyle—viewing the body as an interconnected system rather than a collection of symptoms to be managed.
“What makes my approach unique is the integration of science-driven insights with natural and holistic strategies,” she explains.
It’s a philosophy captured directly in her practice tagline: Holistic Healing Empowered by Science. |

| When It Matters Most
One case stands out among the many Dr. Candelario has supported.
A client diagnosed with brain cancer came to her after being told conventional options were limited. She was dealing with significant inflammation and pain—and was running out of places to turn.
Dr. Candelario built a personalized wellness plan focused on root-cause support, nutrition, detoxification, and biohacking strategies designed to support the body’s resilience.
After their first session, the client experienced a measurable reduction in inflammation—and was able to reduce her pain medication from four pills a day to one.
“Seeing someone regain hope and experience improvements in their well-being is one of the most powerful reminders of why this work matters,” Dr. Candelario says.
She knows that feeling from both sides of the equation: as someone who spent years watching patients not get those answers, and as a practitioner now equipped to offer something different. |

| The Path Forward
For those just beginning to explore holistic medicine, Dr. Candelario offers advice shaped by everything her own winding path has taught her:
“Stay curious and committed to learning. Holistic health is a lifelong journey.”
And beyond the knowledge itself—stay connected to purpose.
“If your intention is truly to help others and empower them to understand their health, the path will naturally unfold.”
